Jim Keating
James Keating Construction Ltd. is now in its 50th Year of Business. Founder of the company Jim Keating, a carpenter by trade, still overlooks daily activites of the business. With no special hobbies to keep him busy Jim is the first one at the shop and the last to leave.
He was born and raised in Elora, married and has three children. Four active grand children now occupy some of Jim's time and they can be seen following their grandfather around job sites as his own sons did.
During the early years of Keating Construction, Jim not only was a home builder but he purchased the land, serviced and developed it. Seventeen awards reflect the recognition that has been paid to him over the years, but no accomplishment is greather than having three generations of home buyers. Homebuilding has been a huge part of his life and he was always searching for new technology to improve building methods. Being a successful buidler/renovator he has been able to pass on knowledge that experience brings.
Jim is also an active member of his community...always making time for service groups, church and sports. With his sons now in the business Jim and his wife Fran have found time to travel.
Barring health problems, Jim's red truck will probably be seen driving through job sites for many years to come.

His advocacy work on provincial drinking water regulations has helped bring about significant legislative changes that will benefit many small rural tourism operators. He is an avid scuba diver.
Deb Schlieker
Debra Schlieker is a partner in a small business enterprise operating in Fergus; the Stonehurst Bed & Breakfast. With her husband she moved to Fergus in 2004 to establish their business and put down roots in the community. Her "let's get it done" attitude and belief that hard work and determination can take you anywhere is demonstrated by the path that brought her to Fergus by way of Mississauga and Calgary.
Having a passion for the hospitality business Deb applies her many years of customer service and management skills to provide a first-class accommodation experience to tourists, business travelers and visitors of all types to Centre Wellington.
Among her business accomplishments she led the formation of an ‘educational assistance learning library’ where co-workers would share business and knowledge resources. And during her employment with Schneider Electric; Deb was presented the “People Who Make a Difference” award for excellence in teamwork and support. She was also a designated trainer in customer service skills and the local peer expert / facilitator trainer for the company’s computer operations.
In addition to her active involvement with the Chamber of Commerce Deb volunteers with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program visiting Wellington Terrace with her trusting companion, Molly. Together Deb and Molly provide residents with an opportunity to enjoy the companionship and entertainment that pets afford.
